Oil pastel paintings on paper or wood
Can be hung just like an oil painting or put behind glass
This image, like a lot of my work, considers the ways in which we feel both connected and somehow separate from nature.
This is one of several recent paintings in which I have incorporated a figure, or in this case, a figure and a dog. I like how they are almost invisible in the landscape. It makes me think of how small we humans are in the face of nature.
Looking for ways to get "out of my head" I love to walk and on Vancouver Island there are a lot of places that feel both unique and yet universal in their appeal.
In this painting I am playing with inserting a figure of a human or an animal in the landscape in such a way that the viewer cant find it until the second or third time that they view the painting. I like the way that speaks to our position in the natural world.
