There but not There
Confined to my home for several months due to an injury I began to see the ordinary as filled with significance. This series of small acrylic paintings on paper (12" x 11") were the result.
The scenes I paint are commonplace ones. A neighbour’s yard, a nearby swimming pool, a car parked at the end of the road. These images were my connection between what is there and what has been or could be. The house is where I shared meals with a friend, the pool where athletic hopes began, the parked car replaced one damaged in an accident. These images contain reverberations of everyday experiences. And they speak to the layering of meaning, the jumpy narrative of contemporary life. To the potentiality in the ordinary. The potential for change. Threat. Menace. Joy. Beauty.
